Global Talent Visa Solicitors
If you are applying for a Global Talent Visa or seeking endorsement as an exceptional talent or exceptional promise, our Solicitors, who have over 25 years of experience in UK immigration law, can help.
The Global Talent route replaced Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) in February 2020. The requirements are set out in Appendix Global Talent of the Immigration Rules. This route is for leaders and potential leaders in science, engineering, humanities, social science, medicine, digital technology, and arts and culture. It requires endorsement from a Home Office-recognised endorsing body before the visa application itself can proceed.
At Law Lane Solicitors, we advise individuals at every stage of the Global Talent process, from an early assessment of whether the route is realistic to preparing the endorsement application and the subsequent visa application. Our solicitors are based in Stratford, Holborn, and Croydon, and we work with clients based in the UK and overseas.
The Global Talent route has two separate stages. The endorsement stage requires an applicant to show, to the satisfaction of the relevant endorsing body, that they are either an established leader in their field or someone with the potential to become one. A rejection at the endorsement stage is not necessarily final. Some endorsing bodies have an internal review process, and we advise on whether a further attempt is viable after an unsuccessful application.
Our Global Talent Visa Legal Services
We advise on the following aspects of the Global Talent route:
- Assessing whether an applicant’s profile meets the criteria for the relevant endorsing body and field.
- Advising on the difference between the exceptional talent and exceptional promise criteria, and which is more appropriate for a given applicant.
- Structuring the endorsement application to present evidence in the way each endorsing body expects.
- Advising on applications in the sciences, humanities, and social science sectors endorsed through the Royal Society, the British Academy, and the Royal Academy of Engineering.
- Advising on digital technology endorsements through the relevant designated body.
- Advising on arts and culture applications endorsed through Arts Council England.
- Advising on direct applications where the applicant holds a prestigious prize listed under the relevant appendix to the Immigration Rules.
- Preparing the stage two visa application once endorsement has been obtained.
- Advising on the conditions attached to Global Talent leave, including the requirement to work in the relevant field.
- Advising on the accelerated settlement route available to those who meet the relevant threshold within three years.
- Advising on extension applications and on switching from a related route.
- Advising on dependant applications for the partner and children of a Global Talent visa holder.
Why Choose Law Lane Solicitors for Global Talent Visa Advice?
The endorsement application is the stage that most applicants find most difficult. The evidence requirements for each field and each endorsing body are different, and the standard required of an exceptional talent application is higher than the standard required for exceptional promise. We advise on what to include, how to present it, and what weight different types of evidence carry.
We work with researchers, academics, scientists, engineers, artists, architects, and senior figures in the digital sector. Our experience with applications that have not succeeded at the first attempt means we can often identify gaps that contributed to an adverse decision.
We are a regulated law firm. The advice we give is covered by professional indemnity insurance and is subject to the Solicitors Regulation Authority Code of Conduct. We give our view of the prospects of an application at the outset, before any preparation begins.

Frequently Asked Questions – UK Global Talent Visas
Who can apply for a Global Talent Visa?
The route is for individuals aged 18 or over who are leaders, or potential leaders, in science, engineering, humanities, social science, medicine, digital technology, or arts and culture. There is no requirement for a job offer and no requirement for a sponsoring employer.
What is the difference between exceptional talent and exceptional promise?
Exceptional talent is for established leaders who have already made a significant contribution to their field. Exceptional promise is for those at an earlier stage of their career, but showing strong potential to become leaders. The evidence required for exceptional talent typically includes a longer body of work and recognition from others in the field.
Who are the endorsing bodies?
Each field has a designated endorsing body. For science, humanities, and social science, the principal bodies are the Royal Society, the British Academy, and the Royal Academy of Engineering. Digital technology and arts and culture applications are endorsed by separate designated bodies.
Can I apply directly without going through the endorsement stage?
Yes, applicants who hold a prize listed in Appendix Global Talent: Prestigious Prizes may apply directly for the visa without a separate endorsement application. Outside that exception, the endorsement stage applies to all applicants.
What happens if my endorsement is refused?
A refusal at the endorsement stage is not automatically the end of the process. Some endorsing bodies operate an internal review procedure. If no review is available, a fresh application to a different endorsing body may be possible if the applicant’s profile fits a different field.
Is there a limit on the number of Global Talent Visas granted?
No, unlike some other routes, there is no annual cap on the number of Global Talent Visas granted. This makes the route more predictable in terms of access, though the endorsement stage remains competitive in most fields.
Can my family come with me on the Global Talent route?
Yes, partners and children under 18 can apply as dependants, provided the relationship and other requirements set out in the Immigration Rules are met. Dependants can work and study in the UK during the visa period.
How long can I stay in the UK on a Global Talent Visa?
Entry clearance is granted for up to five years, and permission to stay can be extended in further periods. Some applicants qualify for accelerated settlement after three years on the route.
Do I need to stay in the same field of work?
Your leave is granted on the basis of work in the field for which endorsement was given. Working outside that field can affect the validity of the endorsement and may cause problems at the extension or settlement stage.
What evidence do I need for the endorsement application?
The evidence required depends on the field and the endorsing body. In most cases, it includes published work, citations, letters of recognition from peers, and evidence of significant contributions to the field. The standard expected at the exceptional talent level is higher than at the exceptional promise level.
Can I switch to the Global Talent route from inside the UK?
Yes, it is possible to apply for permission to stay on the Global Talent route from inside the UK without leaving first. We advise on whether switching is the appropriate approach based on the applicant’s current leave.
How much does an initial consultation cost?
We offer a fixed-fee initial consultation. At that meeting, we assess the strength of an applicant’s endorsement prospects, advise on the most appropriate endorsing body and criteria, and set out the cost of preparing the applications. Please call or email to arrange a time.
