Standard Visitor Visa Solicitors London
If you need expert legal advice on applying for a UK Standard Visitor Visa, or if your application has been refused, our Solicitors, who have over 25 years of experience in UK immigration, can help.
A Standard Visitor Visa allows nationals of visa-national countries to visit the UK for tourism, to see family, to attend business meetings, or to receive medical treatment. Refusals are common. Entry clearance officers have wide discretion, and applications that do not clearly address the concerns about ties to the home country and purpose of visit are frequently rejected.
At Law Lane Solicitors, we advise individuals and families on visitor visa applications from our offices in Stratford E15, Holborn WC1V, and Croydon CR0. We also assist UK residents who are inviting family or friends and want to provide well-prepared supporting evidence. Where a refusal has already been received, we analyse the decision and advise on the most effective next step. We are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Why Choose Law Lane Solicitors for Visitor Visa Applications?
An entry clearance officer decides on the documents submitted. Applications that leave obvious concerns unanswered tend to fail, even when the intention to visit is entirely genuine. We review every application before submission and advise on the evidence most likely to address those concerns.
Our firm serves London’s diverse communities and advises clients from a very wide range of national backgrounds. Several of our solicitors speak additional languages. We understand the particular difficulties for applicants from countries with higher refusal rates and know how to present these applications effectively.
For clients who have already been refused, we read the refusal notice carefully. Whether an administrative review or a fresh application is the better option depends entirely on the grounds given, and we will tell you which we recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions – UK Visitor Visa
Do I need a visa to visit the UK?
Whether you need a visa before travelling depends on your nationality. Nationals of certain countries must obtain entry clearance before they travel. Others do not need a visa in advance but must satisfy the visitor requirements on arrival. If you are unsure, we can confirm your position and advise on the process.
How long can I stay on a visitor visa?
Most Standard Visitor Visas allow a stay of up to six months per visit. Visitors seeking private medical treatment may be granted up to eleven months. Academics on an approved sabbatical may receive up to twelve months. The visa does not permit extended residence built up through frequent short visits.
Can I work during a visit?
Working in the UK, whether paid or unpaid for a UK organisation, is not permitted on a Standard Visitor Visa. You can attend meetings, conferences, and negotiations, and carry out certain activities on behalf of an overseas employer, but the line between permitted business activities and work is a specific one. We can advise on whether your planned activities fall within the visitor rules.
Why do visitor visa applications get refused?
Common reasons include insufficient evidence of ties to the home country, unconvincing financial evidence, an unclear or inconsistent purpose, and previous immigration history such as overstays. Entry clearance officers must be satisfied the applicant is a genuine visitor who will leave at the end of their stay. We advise on how to address each concern before submission.
What can I do if my application is refused?
Standard visitor refusals do not usually carry a right of appeal to the immigration tribunal. The options are an administrative review if a procedural error was made, or a fresh application addressing the reasons for refusal. A human rights appeal may be available where the refusal separates close family members in a way that is disproportionate. We advise on what is open to you.
Can I apply for a long-term visitor visa?
Multiple-entry visitor visas are available for two, five, or ten years. Each visit is still limited to six months. A long-term visa suits frequent travellers, regular business visitors, or those with family in the UK who want flexibility. The eligibility requirements are the same as for a standard visit.
Do I need a letter from a UK sponsor?
A letter from someone in the UK can support an application, particularly for visits involving family or friends. It should state the relationship, the purpose and expected duration of the visit, and whether the sponsor is providing accommodation or financial support. A poorly worded letter can introduce concerns the application does not otherwise face. We advise sponsors on what to include.
What happens if I overstay my visitor visa?
Overstaying is a serious immigration matter. It can lead to removal, a bar on future entry, and difficulty with every subsequent UK visa application. Even a short overstay must be declared on future applications. If you are in the UK and concerned about your status, take advice before your current leave expires.
Can elderly parents visit the UK?
Yes. Elderly parents can apply for a Standard Visitor Visa in the usual way. The application should address questions about independent travel, purpose of visit, and financial arrangements. Where parents need medical care in the UK, the medical visitor provisions may be relevant. We advise families who want to bring parents or grandparents for a visit.
How much does an initial consultation cost?
We offer a fixed-fee initial consultation for visitor visa matters. At that meeting we will review the circumstances, identify the issues, and confirm the cost. Please visit our pricing page for details, or call us directly.
