The child student visa is for students who are under the age of 18, while the student visa is for those who are 16 or older. If you are 16 years of age or older and want to attend a UK educational institution as a licenced student sponsor, you may apply for a Student Visa UK. The Tier 4 General Student Visa route has been superseded by the Student Visa route.
